Tips For A Stress Free Senior Move

I have reached an age when, if someone tells me to wear socks, I don’t have to.” – Albert Einstein

MovingIsStressful-SmoothTransitionsAZPlanning, organizing, downsizing, packing, unpacking…moving is hard work…it’s exhausting! Not only is it hard work, but it can also be very stressful.

Although it’s stressful for everyone, it seems to be even more so for seniors. Why is that? Probably because as we age, we get a little slower in our movements, our balance isn’t as good, even making decisions sometimes takes longer, and some of the decisions we need to make are some we don’t necessarily want to, but we need to.

We’ve all seen the moving checklists that make moving easier, and they’re very helpful, but let’s talk about tips for relieving moving stress through ways of relaxation. (these work well for all times in your life, not just when you’re moving, you should make them a regular habit.)

Ways to promote relaxation and reduce stress….

  1. ReduceStressOutside -SmootheTransotionsAZGet outside and breathe some fresh air – There is nothing more relaxing than to spend a little time every day outside. Take the time going for walks, smelling the roses or spending time laughing with a friend.
  2. Turn on the TV or pull out a good book – Escape into a movie or a great story and let your worries wait for a time while you relax.
  3. Take a nice warm bath – Pamper yourself a bit…dim the lights, light some candles and draw yourself a nice warm bubble bath…men and women alike can enjoy this little escape.
  4. Do something you love – Take a little time to call a grandchild, bake your favorite cake, go for an ice cream cone, out to lunch, do a crossword or jigsaw puzzle, or really splurge and get a massage.
  5. RelaxWithMusic-SmoothTransitionsAZListen to your favorite music – Whether you like the oldies but goodies, classic music, or country, music can calm your soul, speak to your spirit or take you back to some wonderful memories. The nice thing about music is that you can listen while you work, or you can take even just a half an hour to clear your mind and relax.
  6. Take time to breathe – Breathing meditation is an extremely effective way to relax. Just a simple exercise such as breathing in and out through your nose while keeping your mouth closed will work wonders…Inhale and exhale for a count of four each and repeat for about 10 minutes.
  7. Hire a senior move manager – One of the best ways to relax during your move is to hire a senior move manager who can provide you with physical and emotional assistance, from beginning to the end.

The key to de-stressing is learning how to relax a little bit everyday. It will help you through all kinds of stressful situations, especially a senior move.
